This is the second collection of 12 stories featuring Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, published in The Strand magazine in 1892-93. It includes the adventures of the “Silver Blaze,” “Cardboard Box,” “Yellow Face,” “Stockbroker’s Clerk,” “the ‘Gloria Scott,’” “Musgrave Ritual,” “Reigate Squire,” “Crooked Man,” “Resident Patient,” “Greek Interpreter” and “Naval Treaty,” as well as what Doyle hoped would be his last Sherlock Holmes story, “the Final Problem,” where Holmes apparently dies in a struggle with the evil Dr. Moriarty.

Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was an unsuccessful doctor who wrote stories to fill time between infrequent patients. He created Sherlock Holmes in 1887 and went on to write four novels and 56 stories featuring the ingenious detective and his biographer companion Dr. John Watson.
