The third in the Tarzan series (after Tarzan of the Apes and The Return of Tarzan), this adventure begins with the kidnapping of Tarzan’s son Jack and wife Jane by his Russian adversaries and recounts the efforts of Tarzan to rescue them in Africa. Tarzan calls upon his ability to communicate with the great apes and the panther Sheeta to help in his rescue mission, as he faces grave perils on land, in the river and at sea.

Edgar Rice Burroughs
Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) published his first story, “Under the Moons of Mars,” in 1911, and his first Tarzan novel, Tarzan of the Apes in 1912. Tarzan was his most successful creation, and he was the first to transfer the character to other media, including comic strips and movies. Burroughs was a very active writer: by the time of his death in 1950, he had written nearly 70 novels.
