The Poison Belt
The Poison Belt
By: Arthur Conan Doyle
The Poison Belt is Arthur Conan Doyle’s second novel featuring his most famous character (after Sherlock Holmes), Professor George Edward Challenger, the controversial zoologist. Challenger has determined that a belt of poisonous ether is approaching the earth that could end all life on the planet. He summons his companions from his Lost World adventure, including his chief critic, Professor Summerlee, wealthy explorer Lord John Roxton and journalist Edward Malone, to witness the effects of the ether, protected by a shelter. The ether comes, as predicted, but its effects are not what Challenger imagined.
