Tish
By: Mary Roberts Rinehart
Although Mary Roberts Rinehart is remembered today as the creator of the modern detective story, she was also popular for creating the character of Letitia Carberry, a middle-aged, self-reliant spinster and proto-feminist who does unconventional things like race cars, stunt work, bear hunting and ambulance driving. Tish and friends Aggie and Lizzie fascinated her readers for a span of 30 years. The five Tish stories included are “Mind over Motor,” “Like a Wolf in the Fold,” “The Simple Lifers,” “Tish’s Spy,” and “My Country Tish of Thee—.”
