Theodore Dreiser
Theodore Dreiser (1871-1945) was a newspaper reporter and magazine editor whose first novel, Sister Carrie (1900), broke new ground with its spare realism and attention to detail. Among his other novels of social inequality and naturalism, the best-known is An American Tragedy (1925). He also wrote short stories, plays and a number of nonfiction works.
